Product Details

The mainstream industrial grade propylene glycol is 1,2-propylene glycol (CAS No. 57-55-6; Molecular Formula: C₃H₈O₂; Molecular Weight: 76.09), containing no intentionally added compounding agents. Standard industrial grade propylene glycol features a purity of ≥99.5%, with only trace amounts of moisture and minor by-products remaining from the distillation process.

I. Four key advantages of industrial grade propylene glycol over traditional industrial solvents and antifreeze raw materials:

Outstanding antifreeze performance

When diluted with water, it significantly lowers the solution's freezing point; it does not undergo sudden solidification or expansion at low temperatures, eliminating the risk of pipeline rupture due to freezing.

High chemical stability

It is resistant to side reactions with most industrial components at room temperature; it remains stable during sealed storage and has a shelf life exceeding 12 months.

Low toxicity and environmental friendliness

It exhibits lower acute toxicity compared to traditional polyol raw materials like ethylene glycol and methanol. It is naturally biodegradable and results in low VOC emissions during production and use, meeting green manufacturing standards.

High functional versatility

It can serve multiple roles-such as reaction raw material, solvent, surfactant, plasticizer, and antifreeze-adapting to the needs of various production scenarios.

II. Tangible benefits for customers

Reduced equipment maintenance costs:

Industrial grade propylene glycol is not highly corrosive to common metals such as copper, steel, and stainless steel. When used as a coolant or antifreeze in heat exchange systems, it minimizes pipeline scaling and corrosion-induced perforation, extends maintenance intervals, and lowers labor and material costs associated with pipe replacement and cleaning.

Reduction in production defects and after-sales losses:

Produced via the hydration process, our high-purity industrial grade propylene glycol (PG) features low odor, high transparency, and an absence of excess impurities. When used in the manufacture of resins, coatings, and cleaning agents, it prevents quality issues such as yellowing, embrittlement, or unpleasant odors in the finished products.

III. Packaging, Storage, and Supply Capacity of MPG (Mono Propylene Glycol)

  1. For bulk orders, we offer various packaging solutions, including standard 215 kg galvanized iron drums or blue plastic drums, 1,000 kg IBC totes, and flexitanks; ample stock is available for rapid shipment.
  2. To support R&D and pilot production, we also provide small, sealed packages (1 kg and 25 kg) for small-batch formulation development.
  3. Qualified buyers may request free samples (100–500 g) for compatibility and purity testing prior to placing bulk orders.
  4. Storage recommendations: PG should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, open flames, and strong oxidizing agents. Under proper storage conditions, the sealed product maintains stable quality for up to 24 months.
  5. We support both long-term bulk supply contracts for large manufacturers and flexible small-batch orders.

FAQ

Q: What are the moisture content and color specifications of your propylene glycol? Will the resulting resin yellow or become brittle?

A: Our industrial-grade propylene glycol maintains a purity of over 99.5%, with a color rating of ≤10 APHA and moisture content below 0.1%. It is free from foreign color residues and has extremely low impurity levels. When used in unsaturated polyester synthesis, it prevents issues such as resin yellowing or abnormal shrinkage after curing caused by by-products. A comprehensive Certificate of Analysis (COA) is provided with every batch.

Q: How corrosive is your propylene glycol to aluminum radiators and cast-iron piping when used in antifreeze formulations? Does it pass national standard corrosion tests?

A: Our industrial-grade propylene glycol is inherently low-toxicity and minimally corrosive to metals. When formulated with standard corrosion inhibitors for use as a circulating heat-transfer fluid, the corrosion rate for cast iron, aluminum, solder, and brass remains below 0.1 mg/cm²·a, fully meeting the GB29743 standard for automotive antifreeze. Unlike traditional ethylene glycol, it does not cause rubber seals to harden or crack after prolonged exposure.

Q: Does it have a pungent odor? How is consumer acceptance in the auto parts market?

A: Our industrial-grade propylene glycol is produced via a hydration process; it is virtually odorless and free from the unpleasant residual odors associated with propylene oxide. The finished product lacks any distinct chemical smell, making it suitable for the strict odor requirements of consumer automotive antifreeze and household windshield washer fluids.

Q: Will it cause freezing or emulsion breakdown when used in water-based coatings at temperatures below 0°C in winter?

A: Our industrial-grade propylene glycol serves as an effective antifreeze additive for coatings. Adding just 3–5% can lower the coating's freezing point to below -5°C while improving leveling properties and reducing film defects such as brush marks and pinholes.

Q: Is there a risk of incompatibility with resins or color pastes, or of separation during storage?

A: Our industrial-grade propylene glycol is fully miscible with water, acrylic resins, polyurethane resins, and various color pastes, posing no risk of separation or precipitation. As a solvent, it aids in the uniform dispersion of pigments, thereby enhancing color consistency during ink printing.
