Immediately evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe zone and isolate the area, strictly restricting access. Cut off ignition sources. Emergency responders should wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and fire-fighting protective clothing. Cut off the leak source if possible, preventing entry into sewers, drainage ditches, and other confined spaces.
Small leaks: Absorb with activated carbon or other inert materials. Alternatively, flush with plenty of water; dilute the wash water and dispose of it in the wastewater system.
Large leaks: Construct dikes or dig pits to contain the spill; cover with foam to reduce vapor hazards. Transfer using explosion-proof pumps to tank trucks or specialized collectors for recovery or disposal at a waste treatment facility.
