Excellent Moisturizing Properties

1,2-Octanediol has two hydroxyl groups, allowing it to readily miscible with many other chemicals, forming a protective film to prevent moisture loss. Its short-chain lipophilic structure also allows it to penetrate the epidermis, enhancing the skin's water-locking ability. At recommended concentrations (0.3%-2%), its moisturizing performance is superior to traditional glycerin, making it especially suitable for dry or sensitive skin, alleviating tightness and flaking caused by dehydration.

Strong Antibacterial and Preservative Properties

Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity: It has significant inhibitory effects on various microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Aspergillus niger. The inhibitory concentration against Escherichia coli and Candida albicans is 8 mg/ml, and against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Aspergillus niger is 16 mg/ml.

Passed Preservative Challenge Tests: In formulations such as facial mask liquids, a concentration of 1.5% is sufficient to pass bacterial and fungal preservative challenges, ensuring product safety.

Potential for preservative substitution: It can be used alone as an "additive-free preservative" or in combination with other substances (such as in combination with 1,2-hexanediol to form Symdiol 68) to replace traditional preservatives and reduce the risk of irritation.
